The Challenge

  • The previous agency that was managing the website re-design and re-platform efforts hadn’t planned out an effective 301 redirect strategy when they launched the new website in May.

  • As a result, around end of June, the website traffic started to drop drastically, whereby the new leads from organic traffic were trickling in at levels close to zero (which was unprecedented).

  • The previous agency had combined many pages into one; attempting to rank for dozens of search queries with one huge landing page.

  • Lacked a lot of on site optimization best – practices & had no internal linking strategy

The Solution

  • We completed a detailed technical SEO audit to discover the problems holding the site back and fixed them.

  • Performed an in depth existing content audit and keyword research to find opportunities for re-optimizing existing content & also new content creation

  • Utilizing our keyword research, we created new pages, each targeting a specific high conversion search query & ensured there was a clear internal linking structure within the site

  • Built quality links to the newly published pages

  • Increased the amount of content on the website (new & existing content pages) and optimized it to make it easy for Google to crawl

  • Added conversion design elements to each product landing page to increase user dwell time & conversion and decrease bounce rate

Highest Traffic Levels Ever Within 6 Months

The site had been re-platformed incorrectly with a failed 301 strategy and was losing traffic and revenue fast before we started working on it.

When a provider of custom flexible barrier packaging approached us, they were suffering from massive traffic loss as a result of a re-platform in June & failed 301 strategy. Within 6 months of the campaign starting, JNC Squared managed to recover search traffic & brought traffic and revenue levels to the best they have ever been

Campaign Goals

Our aim was to get the site back on a positive trajectory and gain top of page 1 rankings for a range of industry-specific terms.

Our primary focuses were improving the rank positions for smaller industry targets and placing in the top 5 for more competitive terms in larger target industries, and generating an additional 5k searches per month.

Content Audit & New Content Creation

We downloaded all of the existing pages on the new website, and determined which ones we needed to re-optimize (and what the right search query was for that page) and which ones needed to be broken out into smaller product landing pages.

Once we had our target list, we created unique content for each of these pages, focusing on high quality content that solves user search intent & included all of the on page conversion elements needed for an ecommerce site.

Link Building

During the first 6 months of the campaign, we built out links from relevant authoritative domains- targeting both the homepage and also newly published pages, using a mix of naked URLs & proper branded anchors

On-Site Optimization

To accompany the link building & new content creation, we also worked with the business owner and his copywriters to increase the on-page content.

The site was lacking in text-based content for Google to crawl and determine what each page was about and should potentially rank for.

Once the extra copy was added to the site we also tweaked the page title and meta descriptions and updated the H2 & H3 headers with the proper text.

Ranking Results

As you can see from the table above, we’ve managed to increase the ranking for tracked terms and are seeing excellent increases across the board with over 220 keywords in the top 1-2 positions.

Since we started working on the site we have bought the site back to its highest organic traffic and revenue levels ever within 6 months of starting the campaign.

When we started the campaign the site was showing for the following number of terms according to Ahrefs:

• 223 keywords position 4-10 (still page 1 rankings)

• 22 keywords in top 3 positions

 

The site is currently showing up in SEM Rush for:

• 908 keywords position 4-10 (still page 1 rankings)

• 225 keywords in top 3 positions

In Summary

We are currently 6 months into the campaign and the site continues to perform well and increase its search visibility. We are using a combination of new content creation, on site optimizations & link building to achieve the increases in rankings, traffic and revenue.
